Elegy for the Memories

(part IV)

Memories are the things that give us perspective, piece of mind. Memories are things one should want always to keep, but sometimes they are too unbearable to have hanging on your head.

Do you remember
me as a boy, your child.
You were there to raise
a bastard not your own.
You loved me, clothed me,
fed me. You gave me a home.
I was not the first, but damn sure
I was the second. You loved us
equally and indiscriminately.
You were a man fitting
of the title father.
Then you slipped
over the woman you loved.
She left you, she left us.
She betrayed you in a way
your heart could not mend.
You weren’t strong enough,
you’re no superman
though I liked to believe.
I miss the heros, only mortals
and villains around today.
I expected too much of you,
though I wish you were still here
as I could use your heroism now.
You are no more,
perhaps you hadn’t been even before.
All the lessons to be a man, a human,
that you taught seem to be failing.
I remember you dad,
you I cannot forget.
All the hope and promises however
I wish I didn’t.

June 20 Jeremy Parker

It's a lamenting poem, and despite the tone I do love him and always will.

This is a beautiful & amazing tribute, no doubt he'd be proud... I say this with honesty and sensitivity. I find the most remarkable men to be the ones who will raise a kid they didn't help create. So many no-show fathers out there, sounds like he was a good man, I'm sorry for your loss. Take care --Brian

It sounds to me as if he did create you. Beautiful expression of love and admiration.
